As one of SFU's most outstanding graduate students from the Faculty of Education, Dr. Michael Pruner is recognized with the Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medal. On behalf of SFU, we congratulate Dr. Pruner on his outstanding achievements.
Dr. Michael Pruner has been teaching mathematics full-time since 1994. Over these years, he has experience teaching in high school, elementary and post-secondary schools. Currently teaching at Windsor Secondary School in North Vancouver, Michael is also the teacher leader at the school where he supports his colleagues in all areas of instruction and organizes professional development activities for the school.
In August of 2023, Michael received his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at Simon Fraser University. Under the tutelage of his advisor, Dr. Peter Liljedahl, Michael studied the movement of ideas in collaborative problem-solving environments such as Thinking Classrooms. Over the course of his five years of graduate studies, Michael has authored many conference papers and peer-reviewed academic articles.
Michael began presenting professional development workshops to teachers in BC in 2012. Since this time, he has presented many workshops across Canada and in the US on topics such as Thinking Classrooms, Assessment, Technology and Social Justice.
